Finally got that Freemason invite!

Hahahahaha! This blog was always destined to FAIL! No posts or comments in over a year. Maybe the annoying little boy that started this blog actually grew up?! They all do eventually and figure out how immature & futile their pursuit of “professional argumentativeness” actually is. Ce la vie. Yet another in a long line of silly hobby “debunking” sites bites the dust while actual truth moves on as ever… gone AND forgotten!

So sayest the fantastically named ‘NutbarsnzRtheRealNutbars’ in a typically considered, thoughtful comment from the conspiracy theorist side of the fence. (And I’d be impressed if the email address they commented with really was ‘nutbarsnzyousuckbigones@andyouhaveatinypenis.com’.)

Anyway, as NutbarsnzRtheRealNutbars has pointed out, this site has been put on indefinite hiatus. As the site byline states, I’ve been banging my head against various conspiracy theories for a few years now, and you can only point out other people’s mistakes for so long before realising they’re never going to (or will never want to) learn. The chemtrail hoax is pretty well dealt with by other sites (notably Metabunk and Contrail Science) for anyone who’s at all confused about the science behind contrails (and the non-science behind ‘chemtrails’).

Oh and on another related sidenote that some here may find amusing… before I stated adding any comments in these forums I did a little back-reading and followed a few links. One that I visited only a few times was this rather silly little debunking blog called nutbarsnz. I laughed raucously at the massive amount of spamming they were receiving from one commenter in particular before the blog pretty much dried up (and blew away) just over a year ago. Cut a long story short…

Oh, come on Karmakazi Angel!? Surely you’re not accusing our favourite commenter – Biblical Prophet – of being a ‘spammer’? He just made, um, ‘interesting’ points. Unlike, say, MysteriousNZ, Clare Swinney or The Contrail, I’m not in the habit of deleting comments or banning people whose views disagree with my own.

Rightio, leaving the chemtrail hoaxers to their paranoid little delusions … now.

How high are you?

Steven Clougher, over at MysteriousNZ, in regards to the cruising altitude of NZ domestic flights, states that…

When on internal flights, around 27,000ft is common
36,000ft for international flights, as I recall

Is this true, I wonder? (Surely it is, after all, Steven is on record as being vehemently against conjecture). How about a quick check on Flightradar.com to find the altitude of planes over NZ airspace at the moment?

It lists one domestic flight – AirNZ Flight 526 from Christchurch to Auckland. Its altitude…?

36975ft.

And actually, as I write, I can watch Jetstar flight 261 from Auckland to Wellington (the plane just south of Waiuku in the image above) climbing out of AKL to a height of … 30000ft (as it gets close to passing over New Plymouth).

But, hey, don’t let reality get in the way of your assumptions, eh?

Other people speculate. I state facts.

She says there are no chemtrails, but that the atmosphere has changed with the result that there appears that there are chemtrails.

Well, I happen to know that’s not the case, and it annoys me intensely when people make authoritative statements which are essentially conjecture.

Comet Elenin

Recently discovered Comet Elenin is causing a stir amongst the conspiracy blogs as another potential candidate for the mythical 2012 Nibiru Earth-destroying celestial body. (Which it isn’t, in case you were worried).

Our very own MysteriousNZ crew get in on the action by asking some pertinent questions. Crakka wonders…

Is it a coincidence that the name of that comet is an anagram for “The Nine”? Interesting…

You know, try as I might, I can’t make the letters of “ELENIN” into the words “THE NINE” (I was never any good at crosswords though — if there’s some trick to this I’m missing, feel free to leave a comment below). Maybe it’s just more likely that it was named after Leonid Elenin, the Russian astronomer who discovered it?

What I think about on a regular basis is that massive huge monster comet McNaught. We hardly heard a peep out of NAStyA or anyone, and yet the fuzzing thing took up a sizable portion of the sky!! Prolly only just missed us.

There’s lots of comet McNaughts (Robert H. McNaught has discovered quite a few), but, from the photo provided and the mention of its size we’re presumably talking about this one (C/2006 P1), which did indeed put on a nice show when it swung by a few years back, and was, according to the scientists, one of the biggest comets so far discovered.

So, how close did it get? Says Wikipdedia:

The comet was visible in daylight about 5°- 10° southeast of the Sun from January 12 to 14, with a peak brightness of magnitude -5.5. Perigee (closest approach to the Earth) was January 15, 2007, at a distance of 0.82 AU.

0.82 AU = 122,670,360km.

So, further from Earth than the orbit of Mars (a lot further, in fact).
